Sherlock Holmes

Typography, Photography — 2018

Part of a project for a typography class, the fictional newspaper Sherlocked was based on the the Arthur Conan Doyle character of the same name.

This newspaper contains characters and stories from both Doyle’s books, as well as the BBC television series, all explained through different treatments of typography. Each study has visual cues that were all executed in a practical manor related to the content that it’s based on. For example, the first work “Myth”, involves the practical exercise of scanning actual flour, in place of cocaine, based on the public’s incorrect belief that he was an addict.

The newspaper is paced through lyrical typography, graphic illustration, and hand-painted spreads. The mix of type, vector, and texture is meant to illustrate the objective but inherently human approach to Sherlock’s life.
